Meet your Studio Director
Mandy Tempest is the owner of Tempest Dance Studio Ltd in Washington, she also owns and instructs at Tempest Dance & Fitness in Durham. She is qualified instructor, certified by Spin City, Xpert, Pole Passion, International Pole Sports Federation, Oplex and Guru Holistics. She also has a masters degree in Education and is a qualified secondary school teacher and pre-school practitioner. Students welcome Mandy’s teaching style, as she has the skills needed to be able to teach according to different learning styles and abilities. Mandy is a certified Level 5 (merit) Pole Dancer and an approved Level 3 Instructor with PDC (Pole Dance Community)
As a PDC grading assessor she enjoys working with students to pass their pole gradings. She is also the winner of the PDC Grading Assessor Award 2017 – Read the Pole Dance Community articles on Mandy here and here.
Taking up pole at the age of 42 without any dance or gymnastics background and a low level of fitness and strength, Mandy fell in love with the sport, coming 1st in the studio beginner pole competition category. She has continued to work hard to progess as an instructor and dancer. As an ‘older’ pole dancer and instructor students feel comfortable in Mandy’s ‘no airs and graces’ classes. However, with a fear of pole dancing in public she prefers to support her students in their own performance goals; although she has performed at Durham Pride and in Studio Showcases.
As a member of the Burlesque troupe The Tempest Teasers Mandy has danced at various events, proving that despite the stage fright she does actually enjoy showing off….!!!
Mandy and the Tempest students regularly raise money for local charities, she took part in the CEO Sleepout this year and with the support of Team Tempest raised over £1300 for local homelessness charities. She also supports the If U Care Share Foundation who help those affected by suicide and DASH a local homelessness charity.
A strong believer that everyone should be able to access the services that Tempest provides Mandy has ensured that Tempest Washington has wheelchair access and encourages those with different abilities to give pole and aerial a try. She works hard with students with different needs to find a way of instruction that suits them regardless of abilities.
Mandy teaches Beginners, Improvers and Intermediate/Advanced Pole, Pole Silks, Beginners Trapeze, Beginners Silks, Beginners Hoop, Kids Pole, Kids Aerial Pole Silks, Lollipop Lyra, Beginners Mixed Aerial, Aerial Yoga, Aerial Strength & Conditioning, Flex and Meditation! She also delivers fun, energetic pole and aerial Hen parties and birthday parties. She also teaches private 1-1 lessons in all disciplines.
